So…what’s peaceful birth coaching exactly?
Going through pregnancy, too many women hold beliefs that limit their ability to find peace in pregnancy and to birth with grace. Women enter labor with thoughts of:
  • This is going to be the most painful thing I’ll ever go through.
  • Recovery is going to kill me.
  • My body will never be as nice as it was.
  • I don’t have everything I need for the baby yet, I need more time!
  • I have no idea how I’m going to take care of this kid.
  • I won’t be able to support a larger family.
  • I can’t do this.
  • And even: I’m going to die.

It doesn't have to be this way.

After a 36 hour labor and 12 long hours of full dilation and pushing, my birth team and I shared a laugh of my one “weak moment” when entering transition when I asked meekly if perhaps I could take a Tylenol. The team noted that never before had they seen a laboring woman, and certainly not one with a labor and birth like mine, who made jokes and said please and thank you from when they arrived at my home to when my daughter came into the world 16 hours later. Not only that, but rather than the usual “I’m never doing this again!” throughout, I spoke of my plans for my next birth.

Reflecting on my experience, I identified what set my labor and birthing experience apart from those horror stories I kindly declined to hear from family and friends. I truly believe that my thoughts were the main tool that paved the way for my birth to be as peaceful and wonderful as it was despite external challenges.

These are some beliefs I held as firmly as though they were organs in my body.

  • My body was designed to birth this baby; its inherent wisdom is prepared and knows what to do.
  • The pain can’t be bigger than me, because it IS me.
  • This contraction will only last one minute. I can do anything for just one minute.
  • I am safe, my baby is safe.
  • I am capable of birthing and raising this child.
  • Birth is a natural, sacred, special part of life.
  • My baby and I are working together to do this.
  • Every contraction brings me closer to meeting my baby.

After sharing my peaceful birthing experience with some pregnant friends and other expecting women in my community, I found myself helping others through their limiting thoughts, replacing them with the positive and helpful ones.

The results reported back to me were astonishing.

These women were experiencing calmer pregnancies. Increased mood regulation, confidence and excitement. Less pain during labor and birth. Better bonding with baby.

I found myself feeling so delighted to have helped more women walk this earth with joy, pride and fulfillment, and without the unnecessary trauma that birth can bring. I continue to hear reports of that confidence rolling over into motherhood and all other aspects of life. As I continue to coach, I’m constantly inspired by all the women who achieve births far more peaceful and joyful than they believed possible. B Birthers can do anything they set their mind to. Would you like to join them?

I’m looking forward to working with you and to seeing the positive birth you will achieve!
